In 1964 or 1965, when I was ten or eleven years old, I received a gift for Christmas that to this day is my favorite. It was "Robot Commando," a plastic toy robot with a controller that directed the movements of the robot and launched weapons. By today's standards, it was definitely low tech. But for the time, it was very exciting.
The robot would move forward and backward, and would turn right and left. The top of the head was hinged, so that it would raise to reveal missiles that could be fired. And each arm held a cache of red plastic balls that would shoot from the hand as the arm swung rapidly in a circular motion.
This toy is obviously no longer manufactured, but I was surprised recently to find photos of the Robot Commando on e-bay. What a great memory!
